David E. Sundstrom
was first elected as the Auditor-Controller for Orange County,
California in June 1998 and was reelected in June 2006. His
third four-year term of office commenced January 8, 2007.
Prior to his election, Mr. Sundstrom served as the first appointed
Director of Internal Audit for the County of Orange. Prior
to his appointment by the Board of Supervisors in August 1996,
he served as University Auditor for the California State
University Board of Trustees for seven years. As University
Auditor, he was responsible for the internal audit program of the
twenty-two campus system. Previously, he was campus audit manager
for the University of California at Davis for nine years. Prior
to that, David worked for three years as a senior accountant
responsible for governmental auditing for a regional CPA firm.
In addition to his responsibilities as Auditor-Controller, David
serves on several committees including:

County of Orange Audit Oversight Committee (Chairman)
County of Orange Public Finance Advisory Committee
Measure M Taxpayers Oversight Committee (Chairman)
City of Orange Audit Committee (Chairman)
David has served as the president of the Orange
County Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors; serves
on the Executive Committee of the Western Intergovernmental
Audit Forum; serves as a committee chair of the National
Intergovernmental Audit Forum; and is a past president of the
State Association of County Auditors. He is a member of the
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the
California Society of Certified Public Accountants. David is
the Treasurer of Orange Rotary and serves on the finance
committee of Orange County's United Way.
David is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Information
Systems Auditor and a Certified Internal Auditor. He earned
his MBA (emphasis in Finance and Accounting) from the
University of California at Davis.
David was born in Berkeley, California. He graduated from Saint
Mary's High School and attended Saint Mary's College. He enlisted
in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict and
was honorably discharged. He then attended community college and
served in the California Air National Guard. He completed his
undergraduate work at Sonoma State University where he graduated
with honors, earning a baccalaureate degree in management.
He resides in Orange with his wife and two sons. |
