Employment Opportunities
The Auditor-Controller Department offers a wide range of positions in accounting, office services, and management, with great opportunities for advancement and a large variety of work experiences. As an employee of this department, your assignments might include:
  • Maintaining the County's centralized accounting records
  • Compiling the County's financial reports
  • Preparing budgets and monitoring revenues
  • Preparing State and Federal claim reimbursements
  • Providing accounting support to other County departments
Your career choice may even take you into other County departments such as Internal Audit and the Treasurer-Tax Collector.

The County of Orange offers generous benefits including: two weeks of vacation (which increases to three weeks after three years, and four weeks after ten years); sick leave which accumulates to nine days per year; twelve paid holidays; opportunities for a 9/80 flexible work schedule; and a choice of several health insurance plans for which the County pays the employee's premium. All promotions are based strictly on merit and demonstrated performance, so your advancement is dependent on your desire and ability.

The minimum qualifications for an Accountant/Auditor I, the entry level professional position in the department, are a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, economics, business, or public administration, or a related field, from an accredited college or university. Coursework must include 36 semester or equivalent quarter units in accounting and other business related courses. Accountant/Auditor I recruitment’s are held each April and October. There are many other positions in the office, as well as in other County departments that are accounting in nature that do not require a bachelors' degree. The entry-level position is Accounting Assistant II. Recruitments for this level and other clerical positions are held at least twice a year.
